Today I've teamed up with a fun group of bloggers to share some Christmas mantel inspiration, and mine is of the very non-traditional variety! While most of our house is decked out in teal, red, black, and white for the holidays, in our basement family room, I'm always dreaming of an orange and white Christmas!
When I picked the orange and gray color scheme for the basement, it was pre-kids, and we never decorated for Christmas down there. But once the kids came along, the basement family room seemed like our best option for the larger Christmas tree we wanted, and it's a more comfortable spot for opening gifts on Christmas morning. But figuring out how to make this space feel Christmas-y took some creativity. Finally it occurred to me that all white decor would look really striking, especially on the fireplace with it's dark stone tile and orange wall above!
If you've visited my Christmas home tours in the past, then this mantel set up will look pretty familiar. About four years ago I created a variety of DIY Christmas tree decorations that still remain my favorite today! Originally I used all six of them on the mantel below the feather wreath and glittery hanging snowflakes. Each year I've changed up the trees just a bit, and last year I started a sleek, white porcelain Christmas city collection.
This year, I added a few new white houses {which I picked up from At Home over the summer}, I removed a few trees, and I eliminated the snowy garland at the base of the buildings and trees, because it was starting to look a bit too busy.
A few of my original DIY Christmas trees still hold their spot on the mantel, together with a couple that I purchased to mix up the textures even more. The remaining DIY trees found a new home of the sideboard in the kitchen this year {see them in my Christmas home tour}.
I also bought new Christmas stockings for the family this year. I wasn't planning to replace our stockings, but when I saw these white fur and silver foil beauties at Hobby Lobby for 50% off {making them only $5 each}, I couldn't pass them up!
I'm excited to finally have all four of our stockings match this year {rather than two and two, like in the past}, and I think these new ones are just SO pretty! I added my DIY stocking monogram pins to the top of each. I made all four monogram pins for just $6 a few years back, and I think they really are a nice, personal touch. I also love that our initials are the ABC'S!
I know that an orange and white Christmas mantel isn't for everyone, but I hope it inspires you to get creative and consider going monotone with your Christmas decor if you're working in a space with a non-traditional Christmas color.
